Green Bay Packers Home Office Wander Franco has taken 281 regular-season at-bats in the big leagues. Yet he is about to receive a ma sive payday, and sign the largest contract in Rays' history. According to ESPN's Jeff Pa san, Franco has signed a 11-year, $185 million contract extension with Tampa Bay, easily surpa sing the six-year, $100 million extension the Rays signed third baseman Evan Longoria to back in 2012. Update with more details: Wander Francos deal with Tampa Bay is for 11 years and $185 million. There is a 12th-year option and the total value could jump to $223 million. was on deal being done, and first reported talks between Franco and the Rays. Jeff Pa san (@JeffPa san) Franco's deal is the latest large contract signed to a young prospect with little experience in the big leagues, and is a clear sign of the Rays' belief in their star prospect's talent as a franchise building block. MLB trade rumors: Wander Franco contract details Franco dazzled in his limited time in the big leagues this season, tying Frank Robinson for the longest on-base streak of a player 20 years old or younger, and ultimately earning him third place in the American League Rookie of the Year voting despite only appearing in 70 regular season games. Now, he's getting paid like a star. Franco's deal will average $16.8million per year, far from the highest paid player in baseball, but also well above anyone else Tampa Bay will pay in 2022 or has paid previously. , Kevin Kiermaier is slated to receive the most money in 2022, when he earns right around $12.2 million. , at most, made a collective $ Elgton Jenkins Jerseys 13 million from the Rays in 2017, the largest single-year figure of any player in Tampa Bay. that there is a $25 million club option for the 12th year. Pa san also reported that he could receive $3 million escalators for finishing in the top five in AL MVP voting starting in 2028. There is not a no-trade clause in his deal, and if he is traded, he would receive an additional $3 million as an a signment bonus, . MORE: Franco has long been viewed as one of the game's top stars. As an international free agent at just 16 years old, Franco signed with the Rays for a bonus of $3,825,000. Despite being one of the youngest players at each level in which he has played, Franco has shined, demonstrating one of the most patient approaches in the game along with the ability to hit for power, steal a base and play smooth defense at shortstop. He spent only three years in the minors, not including the 2020 season in which there was no minor league baseball, and skipped Double-A entirely, debuting in 2021 right at Triple-A. Before his promotion to the big leagues, he slashed .313/.372/.583 with seven home runs and five stolen bases in 40 games. From the moment he was promoted to the Rays, with his big-league debut arriving on June 22, he displayed star potential. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk in his debut. Though he went hitle s over his next four games, he quickly turned it on, slashing .302/.354/.473 Willie Davis Jerseys with six homers, 20 walks and only 32 strikeouts the rest of the season. On July 25, he reached base via a single, and , tying Robinson's mark. During the streak, he mi sed two weeks due to a hamstring injury, but still came back and reached in four straight games after returning off the injured list. Franco wasn't fazed by the spotlight of the postseason, either, as he reached base in all four games with multiple hits in each contest. Facing the Red Sox, he slashed .368/.368/.789 with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and only three strikeouts in the four games. Similar contracts Though the Rays are notoriously thrifty, they have not been a stranger to signing young players to longer term deals. Just a few days into Longoria's MLB career, he was signed to a six-year T.J. Slaton Jerseys , $17.5 million contract. Matt Moore, once the top rated prospect in baseball, also received a larger deal after he debuted in September 2011, inking a five-year, $14 million deal with the Rays to stay in Tampa. In Chris Archer's second full year in the big leagues, he signed a six-year, $25.5 million contract to stay with the Rays. Brandon Lowe had played in just 43 games when he signed a six-year, $24 million deal with the Rays before the start of the 2019 season. But Franco becomes the latest young top prospect to sign a major deal with their team early in their MLB career. Here's a look at a few other notable non-Rays to sign extensions before going too far into their big-league career, along with their total games played at the time of the deal. PlayerTeamYear SignedYearsDollarsMLB Games PlayedTim AndersonWhite Sox20176 Ray Wilborn Jerseys $25 million99Paul DeJongCardinals20186$26 million108Scott KingeryPhillies20186$24 million0Ozzie AlbiesBraves20197$35 million226Eloy JimenezWhite Sox20196$43 million0Ronald Acuna Jr.Braves20198$100 million115Evan WhiteMariners20196$55 million0Luis RobertWhite Sox20206$50 million0Fernando Tatis Jr.Padres202114$340 million143 Obviously, there's risk and reward involved in both sides for inking to a major deal. For the team, they could be committing money too early, only to witne s a player's performance tank or injuries pop up that could sideline them. On the other hand, they could ink a young star to a very team-friendly contract that costs them le s than keeps them under control for a few free agency years Franco would have been under team control for six more years, but now has at least 11 seasons locked in with the Rays. MORE: And for the players, it's guaranteed money that is significantly more than they would make in arbitration or on their entry level contract Franco would have made just over $500,000 in 2022. However, should a player blo som into a star, they would lose years of free agency where they could have signed a larger deal and made more money. Franco's deal is the largest by any player without Kevin King Jerseys having played a full season's worth of games, surpa sing the previous record of the eight-year, $100 million deal Acuna signed with the Braves. Tatis still holds the record for the largest contract signed by a player that had yet to reach arbitration eligible, which comes about when a player has at least three years of service time and fewer than six years in the majors. It still remains the third-largest contract for total value in MLB history, trailing only Mike Trout's 12-year, $426 million extension signed with the Angels in 2020, and the 12-year, $365 million extension signed by Mookie Betts to stay with the Dodgers.

CHICAGO The fall colors are beautiful at Graceland Cemetery right now. On the north side of Lake Willowmere, there Jermar Jefferson Jerseys s a stunning maple tree in the midst of change, with bright red leaves on the outside, yellow leaves just beneath that outer edge and, near the trunk of the tree where the Chicago sunlight hasnt yet fully permeated, a few straggling green leaves. On the south side of the lake which, in all honesty, is more of a pond theres a sprawling oak tree thats still in the proce s of morphing from green to yellow. Under the shade of that stately tree rests the ballplayer known to millions simply as Mr. Cub. is just a , and visiting Ernie Banks headstone, an understated shiny black obelisk about three feet high, has become a pilgrimage for Cubs fans during this World Series. Ernie Banks died on January 23, 2015, almost 84 years after beginning a life we should all strive to emulate. He wasnt just the best of the ballplayers. Ernie Banks was the best of us. MR. CUB: On the field, Banks began his career in the Negro Leagues before signing with the Cubs in 1953. He became the franchises first African-American player and during his 19-year career in the majors, spent entirely with the Cubs, he hit 512 home runs. He won the NL Most Valuable Player trophy twice (in 1958 and 1959) and made the All-Star team 11 times. Despite his best efforts, though, his Cubs teams never made the playoffs. Off the field, Banks will forever be remembered for his smile and engaging personality Jeff Okudah Jerseys . His Lets play two! credo became synonymous with his love for the game. After his retirement, Banks remained a standard-bearer for the ballclub, his unwavering optimism of better things ahead serving as the touchstone for Cubs fans who might have otherwise given up hope. After watching the Cubs dispatch the Dodgers in the NLCS, fellow franchise legend Billy Williams couldnt help but wish his friend was there to savor the moment. You often think about them, guys who were here a long time and they wanted to see this kind of thing happen, you know, going to the World Series, Williams said. Its been 108 years. It almost feels selfish to talk about my own interactions with this legend, because I know he meant so much more to so many more people. But everyone who had the privilege of interacting with Banks was left with a lifelong memory. Im one of those lucky people. I never met him in person, but I interviewed him on the phone a couple times early in my career with Sporting News. They remain my favorite phone interviews ever, and I doubt theyll ever be topped. I never intended to keep Austin Bryant Jerseys this Hall of Famer on the phone for long, but conversations with Ernie Banks were intoxicating. Hed answer my questions with stories, of course, but hed also ask me about my life. And I knew he wasnt just being polite; I felt he really cared. MORE: He was the first person Id ever interviewed who actually started singing on the phone, because Ernie Banks loved life and singing naturally rose from that joy. And the thing that still amazes me is this: I Ifeatu Melifonwu Jerseys wanted to join in. I was always sad when the interviews were finished, because Id smiled so much while talking with him. Heres a quick story: A co-worker of mine at the time, , called Banks in 2008 to do aninterview . After the official questions, they started talking about kids and marriage and the constant struggle to find time for all the important things in life, for the better part of an hour. Banks became so invested in Ken's life that he asked my friend if it would be OK for him to call Kens wife, Katy, so he could encourage her, and also talk about an idea for a T-shirt slogan that hed thought of during his conversation with Ken. Ken gave him Katys number, then he gave Katy a quick heads-up, just in case the legendary Hall of Famer actually followed through with his promise. Fifteen minutes later, Katy called me and said, Youll never gue s who I just talked to,' Ken said. Yep. That was Ernie Banks. When Ken called for another interview roughly a year later, without prompting, Banks asked how Katy and the kids were doing. So before Saturdays Game 4 of the World Series, I visited his grave, in the shadow of that sprawling oak tree, to say thanks. like so many have these past few days and weeks, I had to stop and pay my respects to the greatest Cub of them all, Mr. Ernie Banks. Ryan Fagan (@ryanfagan) Stafford Carpenter was there, too, with his daughter Brett and his son Chase, and Chases girlfriend, Ashley. Stafford was , Chase had Detroit Lions Jerseys on a Ron Santo shirsey. Im a 60-year Cubs fans this year, and I was a fan of Ernie Banks at 4 years old, he told me. Carpenter grew up on Chicagos North Shore, and like everyone in Chicagoland, he has his own personal Ernie Banks story. When Carpenter was in high school, he had the chance to play basketball against Banks one unforgettable day on the court. Ron Santo and Ernie and a bunch of the Cubs were playing in the offseason. They were going around and playing high school clubs, Carpenter said. They were competitive. Honestly, I dont remember if we won or lost. I dont think it mattered. It was just a great experience. Carpenter lives in Colorado now, and he flew into Chicago for this World Series with Brett, and Chaseand Ashley joined them from Salt Lake City. They didnt have tickets to Game 4 and they werent really even trying to get into the ballpark, not at the asking prices for these games. Were just going to go hang out in Wrigley and catch the vibe, Carpenter said. Because thats the thing about the World Series being on Chicagos North Side for the first time since 1945: Its only partially about the games themselves. Mostly, its about the experience. And part of that experience, for so many Cubs fans Jason Cabinda Jerseys , has been making the trip to Graceland Cemetery to say Thank you to Mr. Cub, who would have loved this weekend. He was a special guy, Carpenter said. He really was. Truth. He really was.

Are the Astros using a camera to steal signs in the Game 5 of the American League Division Series? One former Rays pitcher seems to think so. Seth McClung, who made his MLB debut at 22 with the-then Devil Rays in 2002 and pitched for the organization for three years, pointed out Tampa Bay was using multiple signs when Wes Schweitzer Jerseys there were no runners on base in the fourth inning. He believes that indicates the Rays think Houston is using a camera to steal signs and relay them to hitters. "The @RaysBaseball using multiple signs from the catcher to the pitcher with no @astros on base... folks, that means the Rays feel there is a camera on their catchers signs & that someway #Houston is relaying them to the hitters," McClung wrote on Twitter. The using multiple signs from Washington Commanders Men Jersey the catcher to the pitcher with no on base... folks, that means the Rays feel there is a camera on their catchers signs & that someway is relaying them to the hitters. Seth McClung (@bigredbball73) Now, a lot Kamren Curl Jerseys of times this could be looked at as a former pitcher for an organization simply a suming the worst when a team isn't playing well. But here's the thing:the Astros have already been accused of this before,as have the Dodgers. So this is a current i sue in MLB and not completely out of left field. Last year during the American League Championship Series between the Astros and the Red Sox, Houston had a staffer caught taking Ryan Kerrigan Jerseys photos of Boston's dugout at Fenway Park. MLB did nothing real to punish Houston for it, but the accusations did fly suggesting the team was stealing signs. The Brewers also accused the Dodgers of a similar offense during the National League Championship Series the same year. They directly accused Los Angeles of using a camera to steal signs. Houston scored three runs before the Rays recorded an out in the first inning off of Tyler Glasnow in Game 5. It scored four first-inning runs. Glasnow allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings in Game 1 and didn't give up a run until the fifth in that start. It was also suggested Glasnow was tipping pitches in that inning as well as MLB free agent Trevor Plouffe said on Twitter he knew what the righty Kyle Shurmur Jerseys was throwing after one inning during spring training. I had his pitches this Spring Training. Every one of em and it only took an inning. Trevor Plouffe (@trevorplouffe) The Astros are also known for catching tipped pitches as they famously did so in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series. So at this point there are a lot of gue ses as to why Glasnow struggled and it will be hard to know for sure what happened until players and managers talk after the game. It should also be noted stealing signs and reading tipped pitches is not illegal. However, stealing signs Tress Way Jerseys with a camera is, so the Astros would be subject to discipline if it is determined that is what they were doing. Related Articles

The Dodgers' eye-popping $298.3 million payroll, good for the highest in MLB history but not good enough for a postseason series victory let alone a World Series, translates intoanother distinction: Theyhave to pay a record $43.7 million payroll luxury tax penalty, , citing MLB salary information it obtained. The Yankees ($26 million), Red Grover Stewart Jerseys Sox ($1.87 million) and Giants ($1.33 million) also owe luxury tax penalties for exceeding MLB's payroll threshold of $189 million for 2015, according to the report. MORE: | Due to MLB offices by Jan. 21, the "Competitive Balance Tax" is based on the average annual value of contracts for players on a Tyquan Lewis Jerseys team's40-man roster (including $12.9 million for benefits) and factors in all cash transactions in trades. Of note, none of the luxury-taxpaying teams won a postseason series. The Dodgers who paidabout $50 million to players who never appeared E.J. The Rangers wonAL West titles in 2015 and 2016, but slipped to only 78 wins last year and would need a pretty big rally to reach that number of victories again in 2018. Even if they somehow got to 78 wins by the end of September, that would probably leave them at least 20 games out of even the second wild-card spot thats how good the top of the American League is this season. So what should the Rangers do with the rest of their season? Compete, of course. Play spoiler, if po sible, sure. FAGAN: The front office has decisions to make. Which players are part Kemon Hall Jerseys of the future? Which players should be moved? Which players would they like to keep but would bring back enough value so that they have to consider trading? Lets take a look. Cole Hamels:At this point in his career, Hamelsprobably isn't the guy who takes the ball in Game 1 of a playoff series, but he still could make for a valuable piece in a contenders rotation. In 17 starts this season, the 34-year-old lefty has a 4.05 ERA and a 9.1 K/9 ratio, though his FIP isnt pretty (5.00) and hes allowed 20 home runs in those 17 starts (his career worst is 28). He has a club option for $20 million in 2019, which is a hefty price, but his $6 million buyout is pretty hefty, too (hes not going to reach the innings limit that would have Michael Davis Jerseys made the option automatically vest at $24 million). If the Rangers find a team interested in trading for Hamels, theyll have to do the price-versus-prospects dance we hear so much about at this time of the year. The more the Rangers offer to pay of Hamels remaining salary, the better of a prospect theyll get in return they wont get a blue-chipper back, though. If a team is willing to pay most or all of Hamels remaining money, the prospect price wont be too high. Hamels, you might remember, has partial veto power; he can block trades to any teams except for the Mariners, Cardinals, Nationals, Astros, Cubs, Phillies, Braves, Royals and Rays. He could still approve a trade to the other teams, but he might require that the team pick up his 2019 option to make that happen. FAGAN: Adrian Beltre Joe Reed Jerseys : All those teams mulling over the po sibility of adding Manny Machado to their third-base mix would do well to consider the veteran Beltre. Yes, hes mi sed time with injury, and yes, his power numbers have dipped in his age-39 season, but hes still batting .309 with an .813 OPS, and hes the type of veteran presence front-office types drool over (at least, they used to). He also would cost a fraction of what Machado or Josh Donaldson would command, and thats important in this age of prospects as kings. Two things to note: 1. Beltre, a free agent after this season, has full 10-and-5 trade veto power, so he would have to approve any deal. 2. Hes very happy with this franchise and has expre sed interest in returning for 2019, but that certainly doesnt eliminate the po sibility that he could finish 2018 by making a playoff push with another team and then returning to finish his career with the Rangers in 2019. Other pitchers Wouldnt it be fun to see 45-year-old Bartolo Colon pitching important games in September? He has a 4.76 ERA in 92 2/3 innings this season and wouldnt cost muchif a team needed back-of-the-rotation help. Mike Minor, who signed a three-year deal with the Rangers this offseason, had a 2.08 ERA in four June starts. He has a total of $19 million left on his deal. Lefty Martin Perez struggled ma sively (9.67 ERA in five starts) before landing on the DL with elbow i sues, but could be back around the All-Star break, and a good return might convince a team hes worth trading for. He still has two team-friendly club options left on his deal. Speaking of club options, Matt Moore has one for $10 million in 2019, but hes been pretty awful this season (7.55 ERA and 95 hits allowed in 64 1/3 Maurice Ffrench Jerseys innings). Doug Fister was OK in a dozen starts (4.50 ERA/5.20 FIP), but hes on the DL and isnt expected back until August at the earliest. FAGAN: Closer Keone Kela is 20 for 20 in save opportunities, but he has three more years of club control remaining and the Rangers would demand a high return, so hell likely stick around Arlington. Veteran right-hander Je se Chavez, has Bryce Callahan Jerseys a 3.25 ERA in 26 appearances covering 52 2/3 innings, could make a nice long-relief addition to a contenders bullpen. Jose Leclerc has 41 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings, but hes not set to reach free agency until 2023. Veteran lefty Jake Diekman has a 3.57 FIP in 35 appearances and is a free agent after the season. Other position players You know who has actually been really good this year? Shin-Soo Choo, in his age-35 season, has a .398 on-base percentage, 15 homers, a 134 OPS+ and a team-best 379 plate appearances. That could be appealing to a contender needing outfield or DH help (hes primarily a DH at this point in his career but has started double-digit games in both corner outfield spots in 2018). Thing is, hes still owed a total of $42 million over the next two seasons, and theres zero chance any team in baseball will take on that full amount. Like Hamels, the Rangers would have to find the right prospect/price balance. Also akin to aHamels deal, the prospect return wont be blue chip level regardle s what the price winds up being, if a deal can be struck. Former uber prospect Jurickson Profar is about as versatile as baseball players can po sibly be, and thats an important element for contenders as they deal with injuries down the stretch. Hes had all kinds of injuries in his career, but hes been healthy this season and has 44 RBIs to go with eight homers and a .756 OPS. Hes under club control for two more years, and DeAndre Carter Jerseys it feels like a change of scenery could be beneficial to his career. Catcher Robinson Chirinos has 11 homers in 62 games after 17 in 88 last year and has a very affordable $2.375 club option for 2019. The market for catchers (starters or reliable backups) tends to fluctuate based on injuries, which means Chirinos could be an August trade candidate, too. If the front office decides to really change the landscape (not likely), the Rangers could try and trade young slugger Nomar Mazara, the 23-year-old who has 15 homers, an .812 OPS and three years of club control remaining. Hed fetch a nice return of prospects. They could also try and move Rougn

Aguilar finishes with 12. 8:26 p.m.: Aguilar is launching balls high, but it's costing him time. Takes his timeout at 1:34 remaining and only has seven bombs. 8:24 p.m.: Jesus Aguilar up next. 8:22 p.m.: Rhys Hoskins puts up 17 bombs in the first round. Good for Hoskins. The 2021 Mets are a fascinating team, and thats not nece sarily a good thing. They have just the 11th-best record in baseball (53-46), but their division lead (3 1/2) is larger than the division lead of the team with the best record in baseball; the Giants (63-37) lead the NL West by three games over the Dodgers. Geography, eh? They have the best pitcher in baseball, but Jacob deGroms on the IL. Their other All-Star starting pitcher, Taijuan Walker, has allowed 11 earned runs in his two second-half starts. They have the best Home Run Rodney Adams Jerseys Derby slugger in recent memory, but Pete Alonso needed a post-derby hot streak just to crack the top 15 spots on the MLB home run leader list. Six position players have played at least 70 games for the Mets this year, and only one (Alonso) has an OPS-plus above 99. Youll note that 100 is league-average. MORE: The Mets run differential is a meager plus-4. The Marlins are 44-57, 10 games behind the Mets and in last place in the NL East. Know what Miamis run differential is this year? Its plus-5. Yep, better than the Mets. So, yes, the Mets are a fascinating team, especially this week as the trade deadline draws ever closer (4 p.m. ET on July 30). What should they do? What will they do? Heres what they absolutely cannot do: Nothing. This is a team with needs, plural. But heres the thing. Well, two things. First: There are 10 teams in the range of 49 to 53 wins, and the Mets have by far the easiest path to October. Opportunity matters. If the Mets played in the NL West, theyd be in fourth place, 9 1/2 games behind the Giants and four games out of the second NL wild-card spot. But theyre not in the West, theyre in the East and they have a very good chance FanGraphs pegs it at 74.1 percent of reaching the postseason. That leads us to the second point: These Mets, for all their faults and failings, have the pieces to not just win the NL East but win games in October. A postseason rotation topped by a healthy deGrom, a solid Marcus Stroman and Walker (a suming he fixes the second-half glitch) is pretty solid. And Breshad Perriman Jerseys a lineup with Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeill performing at career norms is pretty solid, too. So,if do nothing is not an option, what are the options? Trade for Kris Bryant For the past several weeks, trading for Bryant seemed like the no-brainer, slam-dunk move. The offense was struggling, at several positions. Entering games Wednesday, theyd played two fewer games than Atlanta, but scored 98 fewer runs than the Braves (482 to 384). The only team in all of baseball that has scored fewer runs than the Mets is the Pirates (367). The 38-62 Pirates. Even the Diamondbacks, the team 40 games under .500 (31-71) have scored 42 more runs than the Mets (in three more games). So, yeah, theres a need. It Chicago Bears Pet Gear should be pointed out, though, that J.D. Davis is back with the Mets after a long stretch on the IL, and he has a .910 OPS in the 12 games hes played at third base since returning. Alonso is batting .327 with a 1.062 OPS and five homers in his dozen second-half games. Jeff McNeill was struggling through the worst season of his career; he owned a .319 average coming into this season but was batting just .226 as of July 1. Hes currently on a 14-game hitting streak thats boosted his season average up to .271. MORE: These improvements probably arent enough, though, because heres another question: Whats the goal? Is it just to stumble through the rest of the season, hoping 88 wins might be enough to win the division? If thats the goal, then the Mets probably dont need Bryant. But heres an educated gue s: Thats not the goal. The goal for Mets fans is to win a World Series. The goal for Mets players is to win the World Series. The goal for new owner Steve Cohen is to win a World Series. The offense, as currently constructed, is not winning a World Series. Without upgrades, the Mets are Alex Taylor Jerseys destined to lose at least two 2-1 games in October. Write that down. And, yes, Bryant struggled in June (.445 OPS), but hes been outstanding the other three months of the season: 1.078 in April, .961 in May and .957 in July. The versatility he brings he can play all three outfield positions, plus both corner infield spots would allow the Mets to give struggling regulars a day off from time to time without losing anything offensively at the position. And thats the beauty of adding Bryant. Trading for him isnt just addre sing one need. Its potentially addre sing several unforeseen developments, and thats the key to surviving October, being able to overcome obstacles that pop up, because they always do. Starling Marte was another player who could have helped cover the three outfield positions, but he was traded to the As on Tuesday. Trade for a starting pitcher Didnt they already do that? Yep, they did. Rich Hill has made one start for the Mets since he was acquired in a deal with the Rays. Rich Hill Arlington Hambright Jerseys is just fine. And the Mets have hopes for the rotation, no doubt. They hope Carlos Carrasco will be back in a few days and be an effective pitcher down the stretch. He had a 2.91 ERA in a dozen starts for Cleveland in 2020 but hasn't pitched yet this season for the Mets. They hope Hill can continue to pitch like hes not the oldest starting pitcher in the majors. They hope Walker gets back on track. They hope deGrom gets healthy and his IL stint the second of the season is a short one. They hope rookie Tylor Megill continues to be a pleasant surprise; hes fashioned a 2.10 ERA in six MLB starts, after a 3.55 ERA in eight minor league starts (five at Double-A, three at Triple-A). Individually, none of those hopes is wild wishful thinking. But hoping they all come to pa s seems at least mildly doubtful. So whos out there? Word is that Max Scherzer wouldnt waive his no-trade power to join the Mets, so forget about that. In an ideal world for Mets fans, Jose Berrios is the target. Hes one of the more electric pitchers in the game Jason Peters Jerseys , and hes been fantastic for the Twins this year: 3.48 ERA, 9.3 K/9, 3.56 FIP, 7.0 H/9. And hes under club control through the end of the 2022 season, which means hes not a rental. Thats good, though it means theyd have to pay more in terms of prospect cost. Still, that feels more palatable than adding a back-of-the-rotation guy such asMichael Pineda, Jake Arrieta, Merrill Kelly or Jon Lester, right? Maybe roll the dice on Madison Bumgarner, a suming Arizona would eat a large portion of the money hes owed? Hes allowed just two earned runs in 11 innings in his two starts since returning from the IL. There are lot of options out there. The Mets just have to pick one (at least
